India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge Is now officially about to complete. This bridge runs over Anji River in Jammu and Kashmir. It is close to completion. The country’s first ‘cable-stayed rail bridge’ is nearing completion on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line. The Anji Bridge which is around 80 Kilometers from Jammu by road will connect Katra and Reasi.
It runs with total of long and small cables of 96. It runs over 846 kms. The link will be a breakthrough in connecting Kashmir with the rest of India by train. It is officially announced by the Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday that India’s first cable-stayed Anji Khad Bridge is now ready for use. The union railway minister also posted a timelapse footage of making of the bridge. The timelapse of constructing the bridge is fascinating and it got the nation’s attention.
It is connecting Katra and Reasi in the state of Jammu and Kashmir through Indian Railways. The construction of the bridge was first decided In October 2016. Indian Railways decided to build a cable-stayed bridge at Anji Khad. The plan was to build an arch bridge similar to the Chenab bridge. This was abandoned due to the vulnerability of the structure. The primary reason is due to concerns over geological stability of the region.
The designing of the bridge was The Italian company ITALFERR. It was responsible for detailed design and construction supervision. Meanwhile the UK company COWI was responsible for proof-checking. This was based on the Indy design, started by Photo by Eurocodes.
