In the quiet moments of summer, children were asked to reflect on a relationship that often goes unnoticed in the busyness of modern life — the sacred bond between grandchild and grandparent.
What began as a simple holiday homework assignment grew into something far more meaningful — a canvas of love, painted with words, emotions and timeless memories. “Roots and Wings: My Love for My Grand Heroes” is an outcome of this thoughtful reflection. It is more than just a school assignment; it is a celebration of legacy, heritage and emotional literacy.
At La Blossoms School, we believe in nurturing not just intellect, but also the soul. This project was designed to help our students reconnect with their roots, to express love for the elders who have shaped their lives and to appreciate the silent heroes in their families.
Students were encouraged to interview their grandparents, observe their stories, recall memories and pen them down in the form of poems, letters, notes or stories. They were also asked to share a photograph and a short biography — adding a personal and emotional touch to the final compilation.
This project has helped build empathy, respect and family connection — values that are central to our mission as educators. The result is a book filled with innocence, wisdom and the kind of love only a grandparent can give and a child can receive.
