Aman Kashyap Remembers Madhu Jha: A Mother’s Day Tribute from the Heart

Dear Rohit

A short story in the form of a letter

Dear Rohit,

I hope that you’re feeling comfortable on commencing on this new journey for your career in an alien land. I can understand that the dynamics between us were never stable.

When your mother left this world, and I entered your and your father’s lives when you were just six, I could sense during our first interaction, by your straight countenance that I could never fill the space left by your mother and I don’t know if I should ever try to, but i hope you understand that my efforts have always been there towards the betterment of your well being.

I still recall, how you would come back from school after your exam results, you aced them and showed them proudly to your father but left the room when I entered to see them. I remember how at dinner table, you would look me in the eyes and how you would respond coldly to my questions.

As you left for college, I could only imagine that this distance between us, doesn’t grow any wider. How I would call to check on you in your  hostel, and you would get slightly irritated and now that you’ve made such a big leap in your life, I hope and pray that in the upcoming years, we need our ties so that we could reach a point of serenity or peace.
